Joanne's Story
When I started to work with Pure Innovations I was having a lot of problems with my job, being bullied and not being allowed to do anything except be on the till.
Dave, my Employment Officer, came to my house and talked to me about what I would like to do instead. Since then he has supported me to develop and learn the new skills to work in a Hospital. Dave has taken me to interviews and meetings with people from the hospital; he even supported me to set up a learning log file so I could record all the new skills I was learning.
I am now working as a food service assistant at The Alexandra Hospital. I look forward to getting up everyday and going to work and doing something I enjoy.
One of the best things about Pure Innovations is even though I now have a job; they are still there to support my progression and independence within work.
Dave's Story
I was the Employment Officer assigned to work with Joanne. When I met her for the first time it was obvious that Joanne's current experience of work wasn't a positive one. Even though at this stage Joanne had lost a lot of her self-confidence and stopped believing in the skills she had I always remember seeing in her the determination and positive attitude that has supported her into the paid employment of her choice.
Joanne was supported by me to access the hospital's Volunteer Learning Program, where she had the opportunity to learn the key skills needed to work in the hospital environment. Joanne was supported by me with one to one on the job training and as she grew in confidence, started to work independently getting future support from ward staff.
During Joanne's time on the volunteer learning program, I continually supported her with setting and achieving new learning goals through building a personal development plan and monitoring her in work progress.
Today Joanne now has the paid job she wanted at the Hospital and is using all those skills both work and social to make a difference to her Patients/Customers lives.
Joanne's achievements have also been rewarded with her winning the Millennium Volunteer of the Year Award for the North West.
