The John Lewis Partnership is co-owned by 50,000 employees called Partners. The Partnership currently has stores in Cheadle and the Trafford Centre.
Whilst it is important that the company is successful, since there are no outside shareholders whose interests have to come first, a primary interest of the company is the happiness of those who work within it. The Partnership believes there should be more to a job than work and pay and therefore aims to employ people of ability and integrity who are committed to working together and to supporting its principles.
As part of this commitment to give their Partners opportunities, they have participated in a secondment scheme where a partner from their Cheadle store came to work at Pure Innovations for six months.
Through the Partnership's Golden Jubilee Trust, John Lewis partners can apply to work at a local charity for up to six months while still being paid their normal salary. The benefits are obvious: the charity benefits, in our case Christina helped find and support people into work who wouldn't have otherwise found employment; the partners feel challenged by trying something new and very often out of their comfort zone, and finally the store will benefit from the partner's development and experiences. John Lewis have found Working Interviews a particularly effective way of employing a diverse workforce. Click here to find out what else they've has been up to.
