Travel Training at the Bolton Opportunities event

Posted on the 19th May 2017

Bolton Opportunities is a great event showcasing some amazing opportunities for 11-25 year olds with special educational needs or disabilities, and Pure Innovations will be there to showcase our Travel Training programme.

The event is being held on Wednesday 24th May from 12pm-6pm at the Macron Stadium’s Premier Suite in Horwich.

So what IS Travel Training?

Travel Training seeks to provide additional support to guide and encourage disadvantaged young people to use public transport safely and sensibly.

It’s a great opportunity to become more independent, gain greater freedom and even increase your chances of finding employment; as one graduate from the group pictured above with the Mayor of Bolton said:

It helped me look for a job, because I known I can travel to interviews now. It's helped me to feel more grown up.

A concerned parent?

Understandably, many parents may initially have reservations about Travel Training; most of the young people who join the programme have never used public transport or travelled independently before.

However, Pure works hand in hand with parents every step of the way to ensure that their child is safe, as well as to answer any questions or concerns and allay any worries they may have.

The training has given Josh confidence. Seeing his friends at the bus stop allows him to join in and expand his horizons.

I wouldn't have dared let Josh travel on his own, before. This has proved to me what Josh is capable of doing.

A unique experience?

Pure’s Travel Trainers make sure both the clients and parents are knowledgeable and confident regarding the trainee’s travel routes & road safety skills before they can graduate from the programme.

Everyone learns at a different pace and Pure seek to tailor each Travel Trainee’s experience to their needs and ability.

Pure explained the system carefully, so that my son understood perfectly.

The freedom that Nick has gained from Travel Training, and the freedom that my husband and I have gained as a result is immeasurable!

The key to independence?

As you can see, Travel Training is a fantastic opportunity for both clients and their families to gain independence and freedom.

So, if you or a loved one faces a barrier which prevents you from travelling on your own such as a learning difficulty, a level of vulnerability or behavioural, emotional and social difficulties then come along to the Pure Innovations stand at the Bolton Opportunities event this coming Wednesday.
