Premier Inn Opens It’s Doors To Steps Students

Posted on the 7th November 2018

Our Steps students visited the Manchester Central Premier Inn on Monday for an inside look at what it takes to work for the hotel.

They started the day by meeting with former Steps Towards Employment and Progression (Steps) student Dan, who has since got a paid job on reception at the Premier Inn. He spoke to the students about how the programme and Pure’s team had helped him in earning his role.

The group was shown around a host of departments in the hotel and learned all about what tasks those roles entail.

Dan showed the group the hotel reception and explained to them what he does on a day-to-day basis there. He spoke about checking people in and out of their rooms, as well as other tasks such as suggesting to guests what excursions they can go on while visiting Manchester.

I thought Dan was very inspiring. He was on Steps like me and now he has a job here (Premier Inn). Seeing everything today has made me want a job in the kitchen too.

They were also given a tour of the restaurant by one of the hotel’s managers, here they learned about setting up tables and working in the kitchen. The manager also gave them a tour of Costa Coffee where the baristas make an average of 300 cups of coffee a day!

The Steps students then visited one of the Premier Inn rooms. They learned about housekeeping and how to keep the rooms clean, tidy and welcoming. They were also taught a few of the hotel’s housekeeping tips, such as having the the holes of the pillowcases pointing towards the window so the guest’s dreams can float away!

Thank you Premier Inn for the tour. The Steps students really enjoyed their visit. They learned a great deal about what it is like to work in many departments that the hotel offers. What an inspiring and educational visit!
