Yes Chef! Teamwork at Stepping Hill for Jordan

Posted on the 26th November 2018

Work in the busy hospital kitchen is a new experience for intern Jordan. There is so much to do, new skills to learn and a constant flow of hungry customers at Stepping Hill Hospital to keep happy.

When we dropped by, it was clear that Jordan is loving it! He is in the midst of a friendly crew, all happy to assist as he learns the ropes.

Chef Stephen is a strong presence, giving clear instructions to keep service on track. He always finds time to keep on eye on Jordan, making sure he is coping well with the work and sharing  helpful tips along they way.

I have told Jordan how much I admire him. Catering is hard work and he is really getting stuck in. He is doing well and getting the job done.

Stephen Mortimer - Chef

We also had the pleasure of bumping into James, another of the interns, out on his placement. James was busy pulling catering trolleys along the corridor on the way back to the kitchen from the wards.

Then who should come along the corridor with another loaded trolley but Josh from last year’s internship. Josh is still here for a very good reason. His placement went so well that he progressed into a paid job.

It is really good seeing people like Josh and also Terry who got a job doing this last year too. They often show me what to do.

It shows that I could get a job as well; that it really does happen.

James - Supported Intern.

We completely agree! What great examples they are of how Supported Internships really do enhance employability and often lead directly to paid jobs.

It was lovely to meet the Stepping Hill interns. They are in for an exciting  year,  exploring different work roles around the hospital and learning about their own capabilities.

We look forward to checking in with them again.
