Our New Bury Supported Internship’s Launch Event

Posted on the 12th November 2018

Our brand new internship site in Bury has officially launched making it Pure’s 11th Supported Internship site. The event began with Lee Jones, the Pure Employment Officer for the site. Lee gave some insight to our partners, interns and hospital staff about what the programme is, as well as the importance of the Supported Internship.

There was also a fantastic speech from Elaine Parkinson the Headteacher of the internship’s college partner, Elms Bank School. She spoke about her frustrations prior to joining the programme when brilliant students with learning difficulties left Elms Bank and wanted work, but had little opportunities to fulfill their potential. This is what brought her to Pure, so that students from Elms Bank could leave college with a platform which offers a great opportunity for paid employment, the Supported Internship.

All nine interns from the site came along on their day off for the event. They each introduced themselves to the impressive turnout of guests. They explained what placement they’re on and what type of tasks they partake in on them.

There was a wide range of placements which are:

  • Shelby – Activities Coordinator
  • Nathanial – Assistant Technician
  • Tayyba – Education Centre
  • Daniel and Luke – Portering
  • Arron – Grounds worker
  • Lewis – Admin at day surgery
  • Kyle – A+E reception
  • Nathan – Kitchen staff

Everyone then went to the hospital’s restaurant to enjoy a buffet and converse about successes, plans and to get to know everyone more.

What a fantastic bunch of confident interns to kick off the Bury Supported Internship with. We look forward to the celebration event at to see what they achieve in the coming year. For now, Pure wish them all the best in their journey towards earning a paid job!
