Festive Wreath Workshop At Woodbank.

Posted on the 5th December 2018

Terry is one of our Pure Grow clients who has been very busy ahead of this weekend’s Festive Wreath Workshop at Woodbank Park.

They have all been been cutting and preparing conifer foliage, holly and trailing ivy  to shape it into handsome wire-backed wreaths. This Saturday park visitors will be able to decorate a wreath and take it home for just £15!

Fir cones, berries, cinnamon sticks and other seasonal trimmings will be supplied along with expert guidance from trained florist Fran Frodsham. This is another great example of how clients involved in our Parks and Green Spaces activities contribute to the local community.

Terry gives a helping hand.

Fran is a volunteer and runs Woodbank Volunteer Gardeners with Jim McGarrie of Stockport council. The group is also known as Stockport Growing in Partnership. Their aim is to teach people in the community about horticulture to help them reap the many benefits of engagement with nature.

Pure clients spend the day with Fran every Tuesday and help with a  wide range of gardening roles. Recently they have rooted cuttings of rosemary and geraniums; sown sweet peas; planted tulip bulbs and weeded the veg beds.

Activity in the open air or in the shelter of the polytunnel gives a great sense of  wellbeing, can help with sleep problems and encourages social interaction.

I really love seeing how quickly the Pure clients develop when they come here. If someone has learned the correct way to hold the cuttings scissors and suddenly discovers this is a job they can do - well then I am very happy.

We also have educational activities. Recently I brought in a microscope and everyone had fun looking at leaves, tiny seeds and even spider legs!

Niall is another client who really enjoys working in the park. He has also made a new friend  – as you will see in the gallery below!

I like it here. The people are nice. Looking in the microscope was good. The spider's legs were hairy.
There is a nice cat here too. It gave me a high-five!

Activities at Woodbank Park are supported by a member of Pure staff. The sessions are so popular that from the New Year we will be there two days a week!

Wreath-making day is this Saturday in the Volunteers’ polytunnel at Woodbank. The project will be open from 10am-3pm. Just pop along to decorate  your own beautiful and natural festive wreath,  support the Woodbank Volunteer Gardeners and really wow your visitors this Christmas time.
