Pure at the People’s History Museum – Ends This Weekend!

Posted on the 3rd January 2019

This weekend is the last chance to see the Nothing About Us Without Us exhibition at The People’s History Museum  which includes work by Pure Art Studio’s very own Nicholas Msindai.

Nic is pictured above with his artwork and we are sure you will agree that it is fabulous. The exhibition as a whole looks at the representation of people with disabilities and re-examines how we present the history of disability activism. It includes banners, artefacts and a timeline of historic events experienced by disabled people.

Pure Artists listen to some familiar voices.

Another important element to the exhibition has been provided by the One Voice team. One Voice is the radio show produced and presented by clients with learning difficulties and broadcast on Your FM. At the museum, visitors can don headphones and listen to extracts from One Voice radio shows specifically dealing with representation for people with disabilities. The team talk about issues they have encountered that have hindered their representation including voting booths inaccessible to wheelchairs.

Pure Art Facilitator, Abigail Betton and a group of our artists including Nic visited the museum  to see his work on display.

All artists aspire to have their work exhibited and everyone loved seeing Nic's work up on the wall. It was a pleasure to hear our friends from One Voice too.

There is no reason for there to be barriers in the art world to people with a disability and it is great that the museum is highlighting this.

A fabulous banner from the exhibition.

If you are in Manchester in the next few days, do pop along to see the free exhibition before it ends this Sunday, January 6th. You can find the museum here – and it has a great cafe too.

And finally – Congratulations Nic! What an impressive achievement.
