Oyez! Oyez! Oyez! Dunwood Park Cafe Now Open!

Posted on the 11th March 2019

The Town Crier of Shaw and Crompton launched the Grand Opening of Dunwood Park Cafe in booming style! Marcus Emms’ resonant tones rang across the park summoning local residents to hear the glad tidings: WE ARE OPEN!

The Worshipful Mayor of  Oldham, councillor Javid Iqbal kindly made a speech highlighting the superb location of the cafe and how it will provide a much needed service for the community. Thank you!

The ceremonial cutting of the ribbon was then performed by Mrs Margaret Woodward. She was representing Mrs Caroline McGrother whose late husband Michael McGrother was a leading force in securing the National Lottery Heritage Fund grant that financed the reburbishment of Dunwood Park. You can read more about him in this  article from our our friends at The Shaw and Crompton News.

There was a fabulous atmosphere at the launch celebration. The cafe was packed full and it was clear from chatting to locals that there is much delight that the cafe is now open.

John Howard remembers playing in the park as a lad “sixty-odd” years ago! In fact he and his pals were rarely out of it for the duration of the summer holidays. Like many cafe visitors he was very interested in the cafe’s marvellous Dunwood Memories Wall. (See the gallery below.)  In fact some of the guests actually feature on the wall!

In a short speech, Pure’s Director of Operations, Dave Ferrier, welcomed everyone to the cafe. He  spoke of how our involvement began and how members of the local community, not least the Friends of Dunwood Park and Oldham Council have helped shape our vision for its future.

We are so pleased that the cafe is now open. It will be an integral part of the park and attract new visitors. Lots of people have been asking when it would re-open so we are sure it will be a great success.

Pauline Holt - Chair of Dunwood Park Friends.

Our  sincere thanks to everyone who turned out for the opening including Councillors Howard Sykes, Hazel Gloster and Chris Gloster. A special mention too to Parish Councillor Louie Hamblet, a fabulous social media champion of the cafe!

We look forward to welcoming many more people to  Dunwood Park Cafe with its sunny terrace, lovely aspect, delicious food and  marvellous Dunwood Memory Wall. Do pop in and see us! And why not follow our Dunwood Park Cafe Facebook page to keep update date on our news and special offers.
