Pure Support had a fluffy visitor from Pets as Therapy this week. Scruffy, who is a gorgeous collie retriever, came along to meet the clients at Sanderling Centre where he was a huge hit.
The clients had so much fun with with Scruffy not least when he ripped his penguin toy. Luckily, Sue the master sewer, was to hand to repair it! Sewing is Sue’s favourite activity. She spends a lot of her time in our art and crafts group coming up with beautiful embroidery designs. When she saw a sea of the toy’s wool on the floor she didn’t hesitate in offering to help. She repaired the penguin by hand and it came out looking better than ever – much to Scruffy’s and his owner Jill’s delight!

Scruffy really enjoyed all the attention and all the clients loved the energetic and friendly dog’s company too. He was very well trained. They could tell him when to sit down, lie down, shake his hand, talk (woof!) and when to take his treats.
Even the most reserved clients came out of their shell. They all left chatting away about the session. By the end Scruffy was exhausted from all the love and attention he’d received!
So what are the benefits of pet therapy? Dogs are non judgmental and loving animals who create a fun environment. They can help reduce stress and make people calm and happy.
Thank you Scruffy and Jill for coming to Pure and having so much with us!
