Community Farm Fun for Middleton Clients

Posted on the 30th May 2019

Fluffy rabbits, cute lambs, donkeys and goats galore: there are lots of  animals at fabulous Pimhole Community Farm. There’s even a haughty llama! They all need looking after and Pure clients just love helping out.

We caught up with them recently on a glorious sunny day. Our farm team were kept busy topping up food and water for the rabbits, hens and geese.

They  also help out farmer Stuart Andrews by sweeping up the farmyard to keep it smart and safe for visitors. They mopped out the classroom that’s used when school groups visit too.  Then it was time to bottle feed the lambs.

Did they enjoy their day?  See for yourself.

I love coming to the farm. I like getting out and about to different places. The lambs are my favourite. I like the donkeys too. I've got a pony of my own called Woody.

Here’s a selection of our favourite photos from the day.

As you can see these regular visits are as popular with staff as they are with clients! Most of the animals love a bit of fuss and who doesn’t feel better after stroking a donkey?

Pure Community Support Worker Kerry has this to say about the benefits of the visits.

The clients really love coming here. Just being around the animals and helping them gives everyone an improved sense of wellbeing. When we get back to our base at the Jonathan Burns Centre everyone is buzzing. They are so eager to tell everyone about what they have been doing. It's so rewarding.

Pimhole Community Farm in Bury offers people the chance to be with and learn about farm animals. Our regular Pure Support Middleton visits are also brilliant for building friendships within the group. There’s a lot of teamwork involved and of course many things to learn about hygiene and animal care.

This is a great fresh air activity that leaves everyone energised. Our thanks to Pimhole Community Farm for making us so welcome.
