Workplace Discovery Days Fuel Ambition for Achievement

Posted on the 19th July 2019

Our NEW education initiative, Ambition For Achievement, is delivering brilliant workplace visits for students with Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND).

Industry Walks

Dozens of pupils  from schools in Greater Manchester have already engaged in our series of Discovery Days. In small groups they have visited local companies for behind-the-scenes tours. These “industry walks” offer insight into the wide range of job roles in the world of work. Supportive companies who have opened their doors to the students include:

More visits to other companies are planned for the autumn term.

Omelettes and Trains!

The students, supported by Pure staff, have often had the chance for a little hands-on work experience. At Asda checkout scanning was high on everyone’s list. (See pics below). At The Clayton Hotel kitchens they enjoyed an omelette-making demonstration. This was very popular – not least because the students ate the omelettes!  Alas no-one quite got to drive a train at the Siemens Train Care Facility but there was still a lot to be excited about! Our Workplace Discovery Days are a fantastic opportunity for young people to see a range of jobs that they may never have considered. It opens their eyes to new possibilities.

On the various Ambition for Achievement programmes we have worked with over 60 young adults and five different Greater Manchester schools/colleges so far. It has been a real privilege and we are all looking forward to more inspiring visits in autumn.

Pilot Programme

Ambition For Achievement is a pilot programme and all places have now been filled. It is just one of our range of Education and Training projects for young people. This programme is funded by The Careers and Enterprise Company and delivered by Pure. Other strands to Ambition for Achievement include sourced work placements and Getting Ready For Work classroom-based learning.

We hope all the students will have fun over the summer holidays and we look forward to our new sessions in September.
