Final Holiday Hunger Bread Run For Bertie

Posted on the 30th August 2019

This week Bertie Bread Van made the last of his summer holiday delivery runs to fabulous Stockport community food projects.  We can hardly believe that the schools are going back next week!

Projects like Bridgehall Pantry at Number 5  and Brinnington Community Church always face increased demand over the holidays. Parents must find more family meals with no increase in income.

While making his deliveries of doantionsfrom Pure’s bakery The Kitchen, Bertie has met so many lovely people – including Elena Vacca.

Pure Innovations Bertie Bread Van outside The Pantry in Brinningtom donating bread from The Kitchen

This summer, Pure Innovations have generously supported the Pantry scheme by donating 10 fresh loaves of bread per week to Pantry at Number 5 to tackle school holiday hunger. Quite a few members of this pantry are families and these regular donations have helped in tackling hunger during the six weeks holiday.
Members have highlighted how helpful it has been to receive freshly baked bread weekly, along with other donated goods, which has saved them money on their weekly shop. They feel the pantries are highly valued within the community and by other local organisations such as Pure Innovations.

Elena Vacca - Pantry at Number 5

Yes Elena. The community Pantries really are highly valued and it is our privilege to have worked with such great organisations.

The children return to school next week. It’s time to sharpen pencils and find those abandoned schoolbags. We wish them all every happiness in the new school year!
