John Lewis Community Matters: Vote While You Shop!

Posted on the 11th October 2019

John Lewis in Cheadle has chosen Pure to be part of its Community Matters scheme. Pure is one of three charities in the running for a percentage of the generous £3000 sum it is offering. Our award will be going towards a potters wheel for Pure Art Studio which will take our ceramicists’ skills to the next level.

How Does Community Matters Voting Work?

Customers at John Lewis in Cheadle vote for us by using tokens which they can collect at the tills or by asking a member of staff. You can vote for one of three charities. The fund will be divided proportionally. The more votes we receive the larger donation we receive. You will find the voting boxes at one of their on-site cafés – The Place To Eat on the first floor.

Please come along and support us with your token!

Stalls & Talks

Our Community and Volunteer Coordinator Emily Smith has visited John Lewis twice accompanied by a client to help spread the word. First Emily and Ruth gave a  presentation to John Lewis Partners to inform them about the work we do. Ruth did a brilliant job  sharing her knowledge of Pure and the projects she partakes in. John Lewis partners left their  feedback. Here is what one person said:

Great talk from Pure Innovations (one of our charities we are voting for this quarter). Lovely Emily and Ruth discussed how they try to change attitudes towards disabilities in the workplace by providing fulfilling and purposeful activities and job opportunities; changing sympathy to empathy and presenting how their charity does work for other charities itself!

John Lewis Staff Member

Emily also went along with client Simon to host a stall selling products made by our talented artists at Pure Art Studio. Simon enjoyed talking with staff and customers about his days on a variety of our projects, focusing especially on how he makes and decorates ceramics. He loved the day so much he couldn’t wait to tell everyone about it at Etherow Park Café where he does café training. What a great experience!

We would like to say a big thank you to John Lewis for supporting us in this way. Also, thank you to their staff who have been so welcoming showing such an interest in our clients and the work we do.

Please come along and vote for us by collecting a token at the till or by asking a member of staff. The voting box is located in the on-site café Place to Eat, first floor.

Thank you!
