Pure Animation Workshop With CHHS Students

Posted on the 20th December 2019

Cheadle Hulme High School (CHHS) students have teamed up with Pure Art Studio artists in an exciting new animation project. The photography GCSE students spent the day learning to create a stop-motion film with the help of Pure clients using our specialist equipment and software.

Collaborative Exhibition

This was the first stage of a three part project. We will be hosting an additional two workshops for the students: one in art and one in ceramics. All works created will then be showcased in one big exhibition at Vernon Park Art Gallery.

The group’s animation will premiere on the exhibition’s opening night in Spring 2020. What a fantastic experience for everyone involved!

Animating Expertise

The workshop was run by Pure Community Support Worker Donna who has led many of our animation sessions over the past three years. Clients Nick, Ruth, Dan and Amber teamed up with the students in small groups. Each Pure animator had their own expertise on different parts of the process to share with students.

Nick was in charge of music demonstrating how to create musical sound effects and tracks using the programme GarageBand. Dan recorded the voice-overs to be edited into the animation later. This was great fun. Amber really enjoyed the prop making. Ruth helped in lots of activities including demonstrating the animation programme ‘Dragonframe’.

Students are currently undertaking their photography GCSE and this has been a great opportunity for them to develop their skills in animation, music production, voice overs and stop-motion. Aside from that it has been a wonderful experience for them to work closely with the community and specialists on the subject.

The Pure Innovations team has been extremely welcoming and have run an inspiring workshop. We look forward to the final exhibition where all the work is brought together and displayed.

The Animation

The theme of the animation is music! After all, who doesn’t love music?

Spoiler Alert! The comedic animation will follow musical note characters on their journey from CHHS to Vernon House. It features images of a number of Stockport landmarks along the way. These will be transferred onto the green screen as a background in the editing process. Cool!

The characters starring in the short film will play instrument props including a piano, guitar and a trumpet. Students and clients constructed these props and armatures of characters in the first half of the workshop.

This is not the first time Pure Art Studio  has worked with CHHS . They previously collaborated on the successful photography project Memory. Their artwork also featured in an exhibition at Vernon Park Art Gallery – click here to find out more.

Thank You!

The students did such an amazing job and picked up on everything so quickly. We would like to say a big thank you to the visiting group from CHHS for coming along and working so well with everyone. We look forward to seeing you all again at the exhibition opening!
