Volunteer Luke Helps Renovate The Grey Horse Studio

Posted on the 16th July 2020

Pure Innovations Volunteer Luke has recently been instrumental in renovating our Grey Horse Studio.  Luke has done a fantastic job in making sure Pure clients come back to a much more spacious and attractive environment.

Pictures of him at work on our social media were so well received that we thought we would tell you more.

Luke is just finishing Year 10 at Fred Longworth High School in Tyldesley. His experience volunteering with Pure has been a great opportunity for him to learn lots of new skills.

What Has Luke Been Up To?

Luke alongside other volunteers have certainly been busy. Here is what they have achieved.

  • New tiles added to the toilets giving them a clean new look
  • Setting up the space to allow for social distancing by removing furniture and desks
  • Disposing of garden waste from the car park
  • Removing old cement and re-cementing new slabs to the exterior (tiring work!)

We would like to say a big thank you to MKM Building Supplies in Blackpool for generously donating the materials. Thanks to them and our volunteers we have been able to have this whole renovation free of charge!

From helping with the Grey Horse, I gained skills such as tiling and working in a team. I also gained the satisfaction of doing something and knowing that it helps other people and not just me. It has also prepared me for later life with skills I might not have learned otherwise and that can save me money by being able to do it myself, but also I've saved money for the Grey Horse by them not having to pay someone to come in.

Amazing! That really is the beauty of volunteering – when helping others you can gain new skills and experiences for yourself too. Thank you Luke for taking the time to volunteer for us and working so hard. You have really helped to make the space much more welcoming for our clients.
