Internship Graduate Scoops MFT Award

Posted on the 27th August 2020

Amazing news! Internship graduate Olivia has won the Manchester Foundation Trust (MFT) Excellence Award for Achievement in Development & Learning.

Olivia’s road to success began last year when she secured an Apprenticeship as a Trainee Nursing Assistant through the Wythenshawe Supported Internship. She impressed so much that Employability Programme Manager at MFT Hilary Whyatt nominated her for the award.

MFT Excellence Awards 2020

The MFT Excellence Awards recognise the dedicated teams and individuals who display the MFT Hospitals’ core values. There are 12 different categories and received 622 nominations across all the MFT hospitals. Just being shortlisted was a great achievement and everyone was thrilled when Olivia went on to be the winner.

Wythenshawe Hospital Supported Internship

Olivia joined the Wythenshawe Hospital Supported Internship, because she wanted a paid job, but wasn’t sure what she wanted to do. Her placements gave her the experience and time to find her strengths and learn work skills.

This Supported Internship is a partnership between The Manchester College, Pure Innovations and host employer Wythenshawe Hospital.

Olivia’s Internship

Olivia’s first placement was in the Medical Records Library. There she proved to have a good work ethic and great attention to detail.

Olivia then moved on to a placement in the Admissions Lounge as a Health Care Support Worker. Here she helped with case notes and supported patients into surgery and ward areas.

Senior Employment Officer Lisa Crank recognised Olivia’s strengths and suggested she apply for the Nursing Assistant Apprenticeship. Lisa supported Olivia as she completed the application and passed the required Maths and English test. Lisa also attended the interview with her. Just a few days later Olivia was offered the position.

We are all so pleased that Olivia has won this award. She has fitted in extremely well and has done an amazing job within her role. Well done Olivia!

Where Is She Now

Olivia has been working in her role since last September. Her tasks include:

  • Patient care
  • Observation checks on patients
  • Serving food
  • Changing beds
  • Cleaning and wiping down areas

Unfortunately, the award ceremony could not take place this year due to the corona virus but the awards have now been distributed. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, Olivia continues to work hard moving around various wards to support different areas. She has adapted and coped with this so well, proving that she is very deserving of her award.

Olivia and her team are over the moon with her success in winning the Achievement in Development & Learning award. Congratulations to Olivia!
