Oldham Mayor Officially Opens Lydia’s Tearoom

Posted on the 30th September 2021

At a lovely celebration event, Mayor of Oldham, Councillor Jenny Harrison, officially opened Lydia’s Tearoom in Foxdenton Park.

We were delighted  that Mrs Harrison was also accompanied by Oldham Junior Mayor, Tia Henderson. (above, right).

Pure Innovations runs Lydia’s Tearoom on behalf of community champions Chadderton Together. It is a truly delightful environment for the Pure clients who receive our cafe training there. Already they are really enjoying learning catering and hospitality skills, right at the heart of the community.

Praise from the Mayor

In her speech, Cllr Harrison thanked the Chadderton Together committee for all their hard work. Through their determination, grant applications and tireless fundraising, they achieved their goal of converting an old bowling pavilion into the inviting tearoom. Their next goal? Renovating Foxdenton Hall!

Councillor Harrison also expressed her pleasure at Pure Innovations’ involvement. We  run The Boathouse Cafe in Alexandra Park which is in her own ward. She has seen firsthand how, with Pure training, clients successfully integrate into a working cafe environment. We extend our warm thanks to Councillor Harrison for opening Lydia’s Tearoom.

The opening event was also a thank you to people who have helped the project along the way. Amongst the many guests were the architects, builders and suppliers. Majestic Coffee kindly donated the hot drinks for the celebration.

Volunteer For Chadderton Together

This friendly, community-focused organisation runs a number of events including the highly popular annual Chadderton Day celebrations. It is hoping to extend the tearoom opening hours and also to open at weekends. This is dependent on getting enough volunteers. If you would like to help, you can contact Chadderton Together on its website contact page.
