During the pandemic, we secured over 50 jobs for people with disabilities

PURE URGES EMPLOYERS TO AIM HIGH – AS THE CHARITY SECURES MORE THAN 50 JOBS FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES ACROSS GREATER MANCHESTER DURING THE PANDEMIC

  • Pure Innovations provides support to people with disabilities and disadvantaged groups to get into work. During the peak of the coronavirus pandemic, the charity secured 58 jobs for people with disabilities across Greater Manchester.
  • The Government has a 10-year plan to get a million more disabled people into employment by 2027. The strategy is based on supporting disabled people and long-term health conditions to find work and providing investment to support these people to stay in work.
  • According to figures from the House of Commons Library, during the last year, the proportion of disabled people in the UK who are in employment has gone down, while the proportion who are either unemployed, or economically inactive, has gone up.
  • 4 million people of working age (16-64) reported that they were disabled in the final quarter of last year, about 20% of the working age population. Less than a fifth of people with learning difficulties as their main health condition were in employment.

Pure Innovations is urging businesses across Greater Manchester to aim high, and sign-up for its supported employment programme. The charity secured more than 50 jobs for people with disabilities across the city-region during the peak of the Covid pandemic.

Based in Stockport, Pure provides support to people with disabilities and disadvantaged groups – to lead fulfilled lives including employment. The charity launched its new branding earlier this autumn. A central part of the fresh look is a logo reaching for the stars.

Now Pure is urging everyone they work with to aim high. Employers already signed-up include: Alexander Windows, Broughton House, Bruntwood, Hotel Brooklyn, Hotel Football, Manchester Airport, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, Peel Group, Seven Bro7hers, Stockport Homes Group and Stockport NHS Foundation Trust.

The charity was ‘highly commended’ recently, at the Stockport Business Awards, in the Best Not-for-Profit Organisation category. Pure were also recognised at the Greater Manchester Business Awards this summer, where they were a finalist for the Community and Social Responsibility award.

At Pure we believe that with the right support you can find the right career and stay in employment. We are proud that during the peak of the Covid pandemic we’ve still been able to secure employment for more than 50 people across Greater Manchester.

“We provide support to people within the Greater Manchester area that are experiencing difficulties in the workplace due to a disability or health issue. At Pure we offer a variety of practical support services to help disabled people in the workplace to achieve their full potential.

“We provide support and advice to employers and employees around making reasonable adjustments in the workplace. This includes providing trained and experienced job coaches to help create bespoke training plans and regular monitoring in the workplace to ensure ongoing success and development.”

In Greater Manchester, Pure is working hard to reverse that trend despite the pandemic.

After Robert completed his Pure supported internship, in partnership with The Manchester College, he landed a paid job as a warehouse operative at Seven Bro7hers in Salford.

Robert said: “I’ve had a difficult time in lockdown but I’m so glad I’ve finally got my first real job. I enjoy working at Seven Bro7hers as they really support me and take time to explain things. Pure helped me prepare for working at the brewery and kept in touch with me right through the lockdown.”

Bobbie landed a work placement at Hotel Football, right next to Manchester United‘s Old Trafford football ground, as part of her Media City supported internship. Within weeks she was offered a paid job as an events assistant.

Jackie Vaughan, Bobbie’s mum, said: “Doing the internship and placement at Hotel Football then gaining employment has helped Bobbie thrive. She has grown so much in confidence and self-esteem that she is now helping others around her. Bobbie has become more organised, independent and mature and proved she has a great work ethic.”

Reece has secured paid work as a catering assistant at Stepping Hill Hospital, in Stockport, after completing his Pure internship in partnership with Cheadle and Marple College Network.

Reece said: “When I first started my internship, I was really nervous but when I attended daily it got easier and I started to make friends. I really liked working there and now I’ve gained a part-time job there to which is really good, and I am happy about that. This has boosted my confidence and given me hope and makes me feel valued as a person as I am being paid for a job.”
