Melanie’s Story

Melanie is a young woman with impressive artistic talent. We believe artists work best in an art studio which is why we moved our art group to a dedicated unit within Broadstone Mill. With suitable sinks, storage and equipment this environment has seen talent really blossom.

"I love art because I love bright colours. I was very happy and very excited when I saw my picture hanging up in Manchester."

Melanie has  experimented with many techniques including paper marbling, collage and screen printing as well as drawing and painting. A typical project for Melanie might begin with researching images for inspiration using the group’s iPad, often with best friend Emily who is also in the group.

Group leader Abbi was so impressed with one of Melanie’s paintings that together they submitted in to the  ‘It Will Never Work’ exhibition as part of the Manchester Science Festival. We maintain that an artist in no less an artist for having a learning disability and this proved to be the case.

Melanie’s work ‘The Colourful Planet’ was selected and to her delight was on display for two months at the Nexus Art Cafe in Manchester’s Northern Quarter.
