Internship Success for Abdus

Abdus is delighted to have been offered an apprenticeship.

Abdus had no doubts about his career aspirations when he joined our  Oldham Internship. He wanted to be a painter and decorator.

He had already proved his commitment when as a student he had volunteered to help out the maintenance team at Oldham College.  Abdus has a hearing impairment which  required the aid of a signer for his class work. Determined to minimise this support, he undertook his volunteering without one.

Commitment was matched by skill. Abdus won a “Rising Star Award” from Greater Manchester Colleges Group.

An award for Abdus.

A star performance from Abdus.

The Supported Internship program enabled him to build upon his experience through a formal placement with the maintenance team at Oldham College. He quickly picked up all the many and varied tasks asked of him around the campus from painting walls to building fences.

The support of the internship team helped build his confidence and the classroom sessions further enhanced his employability skills.

His engaging personality allowed him to build new friendships and become an effective member of the maintenance team. All this encouraged Abdus to formally apply for an apprenticeship  at the college. He was invited to an interview and to his delight was successful. His Mum was pretty pleased too!

Abdus is a very hard worker and has a good eye for detail. His work is of an excellent standard.
