Why I Love Being A Community Support Worker: Vicky
Busy mum Vicky loves her job as a Community Support Worker (CSW) supporting clients to ensure they get the most out of their day. It is rewarding work and with four children at home Vicky finds that her hours of work fit in very well with family life.
Vicky runs our Textiles and Craft sessions and has enabled clients like Suzy to make many beautiful creations, including the lovely cushions above.
It is not all about textiles though. Recent projects have included model-making, decorating some rather fabulous wooden bees and painting mini wellingtons! Take a look.
I love my job! It is great to get everyone together and come up with ideas for new projects. The cushions they have made are all different and all fantastic. Michael is making one with a design based on his favourite football club. I am always to hand to help out if threading needles proves too fiddly or to help with cutting out and design choices.
When someone finishes a project it is such a great feeling to see their pride in their accomplishment. The hessian lunch bags they've been decorating have proved so popular. We sell them and clients have such a huge sense of achievement when someone buys their work. I love how happy it makes them feel.
I used to work in a children's home but found the night and weekend shifts just didn't fit in with family life. My hours here are far more convenient. Some days we have a dance session in the afternoon too which is great fun and good exercise for me too!Vicky - Community Support Worker, Pure Middleton.
