GMCA Working Well Project: Supported Employment.
The Working Well Supported Employment programme works with people with either learning disabilities and/or autism or mental health needs.
The service aims to work with clients to find sustainable employment through a personalised support approach for each individual. Pure delivers the service on behalf of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority, Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership and European Social Fund across Oldham, Stockport and Tameside Local Authorities. The programme covers Bury and Rochdale too – where it is managed by our partners PossAbilities.
The service is made up of two elements; Supported Employment and Individual Placement Support. Individuals can be referred by Social Care and secondary mental health care teams/Early Intervention Team.
Who Can Apply?
You can apply for the Working Well Supported Employment programme if you:
Have a learning disability and/or autism, are known to Adult Social Care (Supported Employment)
Are receiving help for severe mental illness, via a secondary mental health service such as Early Intervention Team (Individual Placement Support)
AND you are:
- Over 18 years of age
- Living in Stockport, Oldham, Tameside, Rochdale or Bury
- Are receiving help with a severe mental illness or have a learning disability and/or autism
- Are currently unemployed and want to work
- Have the right to work in the UK
- Are not currently on any employment programme
How the Working Well Supported Employment Project Can Help You
You will work with your own Employment Officer who will help you to:
- identify your skills, qualities, experience and career goals
- find local vacancies and opportunities that you’re interested in
- help you with job applications, prepare a CV and do practice interviews
- help you learn new travel routes and become an independent traveller
- provide advocacy on your behalf to work with potential employers on making reasonable adjustments and tailored training
- offer job coaching and in work support
Our programme is client lead, and we offer a personalised specialist service to each client. We maintain regular contact with you, support you at every step of the way and ensure when you get into work, that you receive all the support needed to sustain your employment. We offer travel training to help you become familiar with your travel route to work and how to stay safe on journeys.
If you need support in work, we can arrange a job coach to support you, negotiate adjustments with your employer, signpost you to other services and regularly hold reviews to check your progress and that you’re happy in your job.
Case Study: Nina’s Story
Nina made her journey back into employment on the Working Well Supported Employment Programme. She was supported by Pure Innovations Employment Officer, Jade Tomlinson.
“My first contact with Pure Innovations was in Cheadle where Jade and her colleague explained to me how they would help me to become interview-ready and work ready.
I then met with Jade by necessity in a Wetherspoons, not an office! Luckily we had sun and a calm day to start filling in the various forms that help you to focus and hone your job hunt.
We spent plenty of time on this helpful process of exploring my skills and experience so far, what I could bring to a job, where I had training needs, how to update my CV and what to put in my covering letter to best show off what I could bring to a job.
I never felt rushed, I felt listened to and heard, and enjoyed the process of learning what kind of jobs could be a good fit.
Then Jade and I had Zoom sessions to scour the Internet in a focussed way to throw up suitable jobs.
Throughout, we agreed at the end of each session what tasks each of us would do before the next session.When I had job interviews, Jade would coach me over Zoom and help me anticipate questions and this gave me great confidence.
Jade gave me great helpful feedback on my CV and application forms, helped me to identify jobs, and was always available by WhatsApp to answer my queries and buoy me up with her enthusiasm and conviction there was the right job out there for me!
After several meetings and several months of help, I found my dream job and started in the New year. I couldn’t have done it without Jade’s unfailing enthusiasm and focussed help and I’m so grateful to her.
Jade has stayed in touch with me as I’ve settled into my job, has been on hand to remind me about contracts and paperwork, and has continued to buoy up my confidence as I settle into what is proving to be immensely rewarding and interesting work.
It’s been a great journey, with Jade at my side and always so friendly and encouraging.”
Nina is clearly very happy in her work as a carer/family support worker and locality co-ordinator.
