Helen’s Story

In pride of place on Helen’s mantelpiece is the framed photo of her receiving her NVQ Award in Business and Administration from the Mayor of Stockport.

"Receiving my NVQ Award was the proudest moment of my life."

It marks a significant milestone in Helen’s work at Stepping Hill Hospital in the job she found through Pure.

We matched Helen’s organising talents and helpful manner with a voluntary work placement at the hospital. We were delighted when she was accepted for the role.

At first Helen was helping visitors find their way round the huge site but quickly progressed to clerical work. Here she proved so valuable that her manager created a paid post specifically for her.

‘I work in the Health Records Library’, said Helen. ‘When anyone is admitted to hospital I pull their notes from our shelves and make sure they get to the right person. I also do stock checks, track notes electronically and deal with emails.

‘I was promoted and now I also work on reception helping with the booking in of patients.

‘I love working here. My manager Pauline Ellis was my supervisor for my NVQ. Being presented with the Award was brilliant – the proudest day of my life.’

It’s clear that Helen is a genuine asset to her department.

‘We really miss Helen when she is away as she is so cheery and makes everything move smoothly’, said Pauline.

‘She always offers to help other staff members and is a real team player. It is reassuring to know Pure staff are just a phone call away if required but Helen just gets on with her job.’
