Debra’s Story

Approaching her 90th birthday, Debra had recently moved to the area to be closer to her family. Each week, Debra attended a social lunch group which offers the chance to make friends, have honest and open conversations whilst connecting to likeminded people. However, the group was set to be put on pause for 5 weeks and those close to Debra had started to notice her mental health quickly decline.

Not only is The Community Hub open twice each week, but within walking distance for Debra, the perfect opportunity to connect to her local community whilst working around her current timetable of care. A warm welcome, cup of tea and a chat soon followed. Debra attended the following week alongside her engagement worker, and continues to do so independently for every session that followed thereafter.

The Future

The Community Hub continue to support Debra with any potential opportunities that might be of interest, including local tea-parties and even a three day ‘Holiday at Home Summer Special’, which includes free transport, cooked meals and a whole host of laughs – it’s fair to say Debra is most looking forward to it!

Access to the community is vital for anyone, providing a unique sense of belonging, purpose and fulfilment. Age is just a number, and for Debra, socialising with friends is the key to a happy and prosperous life.
