The Supported Internship

Work based programme of study

The Supported Internship will focus on students transitioning from education into sustainable employment.

As part of Preparing for Adulthood they will learn work skills in a real life working environment, complying with real job conditions, attendance, time-keeping, shift patterns and dress code.  Interns will also have support with gaining qualifications to improve their knowledge and expertise in and support aspirations in their chosen career pathway.

Interns will benefit from wraparound support from the Supported Internship team linked to their EHCP outcomes and their long-term career goals, promoting good wellbeing, independence as well as being a part of their local community. Interns will need be independent travellers prior to starting the Supported Internship but support with new journeys will be provided by experienced Travel Trainers.

Eligibility

Aged between 16 and 24 and have an Education Health and Care Plan. You should have a strong motivation to work and be prepared to spend most of your time in the workplace. ​ Students must have good attendance history and demonstrate a commitment to future employment. Students are independent travellers or working towards it.

Work based programme of Study

Monday to Thursday:
09:30am to 10:30am in the classroom
10.30am – 2.30pm on placement
2.30pm – 3.30pm in the classroom

Up to three placements across the year
