Supported Internships

Supported Internships support young people to progress into sustainable paid employment. They are the perfect bridge between education and employment.

Our Supported Internships are employment-based courses giving students with special educational needs and disabilities the opportunity to develop employability skills. They are based in real work places and involve working alongside other working people.

Our Internships prepare you for employment, build your confidence and abilities, and help you gain independence. For example, you can receive Travel Training before the course starts, so that you can learn to travel to and from work on your own if you were unable to do so already.

See interns on our Media City Supported Internship out on their varied work placements.

The Internships are a partnership between a host employer, for example a hospital or council; a college providing on-site tuition and our own specialist employment team at Pure.

Each Intern receives a support plan tailored to their needs. Their skills are matched to job roles within the employer’s organisation, such as clerical, catering or portering. The time scale mirrors the academic year and the usual format is three 10-week work placements.

Having spent a lot of time in the care of doctors and nurses, I couldn’t think of a more rewarding place to work. My confidence has grown immensely and I’m very positive about my future.

We provide focused job coaching plus continuous support and monitoring to both interns and employers.

Our Supported Internships are currently running in Manchester, Salford, Trafford, Stockport and a new Internship to 2018 in Bury.

We would also love to hear from any employer interested in offering a work placement to an intern. This differs from being a host employer. Many employers have found able and dedicated members of staff this way. Take a look at fabulous employer Harwich Farrelly, a progressive employer that now employs five former interns . Do contact us for a chat about how the process works.
