Pure Innovations Supported Interns raised £230 for synthetic pets to support people living with dementia at Wythenshawe Hospital!
Raising Funds
The interns in Wythenshawe were looking for ways to help out in the community. The group discovered the dementia ward would benefit from funds for the fab Precious Petzzz. Interns brainstormed ideas and discussed how they could raise money to buy the synthetic animals. Through this, they decided to sell raffle tickets to win hampers.
This Supported Internship is a partnership between The Manchester College, Pure Innovations and host employer Wythenshawe Hospital.
Family and friends of the interns and local businesses kindly donated a range of products to fill the hampers. These included sweets, chocolates, wine and perfume, gift vouchers and more.
Organising the Raffle
The students worked hard as a team putting together different items for the hampers and decorating them. They designed a poster to promote the raffle displaying it around the college, hospital and local shops. Soon enough the hamper donations and raffle money came flooding in. Great work!
What Are Precious Petzzz?
Precious Petzzz are sensory model animals in the form of a cat or a dog and are renowned for their realism. They have soft, synthetic fur giving them a very natural appearance and their smart technology simulates the breathing motion of real animals, suggesting furry lifelike behaviour.
In recent years, Petzzz have become increasingly popular in the healthcare sector. They are widely used for people living with dementia for pet therapy as the familiar touch of an animal can bring many benefits. It is believed that they can not only provide comfort and enjoyment for inpatients while in hospital, but they also help to reduce stress and alleviate anxiety.
Skills the Interns Learned
This project has allowed interns to practise employability skills. They worked in a team, developed organisational and communication skills and also gained experience in financial management. All this and raising £230 for charity. Well done team!
