National Supported Internship Day (#NSID2023) aims to raise awareness of the huge impact internships can have, celebrating not only the positive outcomes for young people but also on organisations and wider society too.
Employment opportunities offer the chance to give back to your local community, make lasting relationships and begin your journey to a fulfilled life. Working together means that we can alleviate barriers to employment and create a future that is both inclusive and bright.
Yet only 4.8% of people in England (and 4.1% of people in Scotland) with a learning disability and/or autism who are known to local authorities go on to secure paid employment, compared to 80% of their peers. –DFN Project
Neil Willows, Pure Innovations Internship Manager said:
“Supported internships are an ideal bridge from education into employment, providing young people with an opportunity to learn work-skills alongside colleagues in a real environment and allowing them to showcase their talent to employers. As a result, this leads to sustainable employment that not only promotes equality and diversity, but the independence needed to make their own life choices.”
Across all of Pure Innovations Supported Internship sites, activities, events, raffles and celebrations are taking place – all co-designed with the young students who have benefitted greatly from the programme. Take a look below and get involved in the conversation!
