Gabriel refuses to let his hearing loss impact his confidence or ambition as he takes another step towards his dream of making bespoke cabinets and furniture.

We were introduced to Gabriel through The Manchester College where he achieved a Level 2 diploma in car maintenance before changing direction and completing a Level 2 and 3 diploma in site carpentry and joinery. He enrolled onto our Supported Internship programme as he wanted to gain employment “as soon as possible.”

Gabriel displays some language and communication difficulties relating to his hearing loss, however this hasn’t held him back during his placement with The Reclaimed Flooring Company in Stockport, who produce high end, one of a kind crafted flooring and stairs.

Despite his first day nerves around meeting new people, all Gabriel needed was a nudge in the right direction. Supported by Pure’s Internship team, he soon became part of the team!

Stuart Hope, the Operations Manager at The Reclaimed Flooring Company said:
“No exaggeration, Gabriel is the most proficient person in the company. He’s training other staff on using tools and equipment. He’s also heavily involved in the planning, timelines and scheduling of projects. He’s doing amazing and is a perfect fit for our company.”

Gabriel has gone on to achieve his full FLT licence with the company!

  • “I didn’t expect to get a paid job doing what I love so quickly after joining the internship. I’ve learned so much and I’m working with great people, It’s just fantastic. My favourite part is creating something out of reclaimed wood into something brand new and high end.”
