Freddie has always had a passion for electrics. From a young age, he would help his dad, a qualified Electrician, with jobs around the house and that early spark never left him. His dream has always been to become a fully qualified Electrician and thanks to hard work, determination, and the right support, he’s now well on his way!
Between 2022 and 2024, Freddie completed his Level 2 and 3 Diplomas in Electrical Installation. Then, in September 2024, he joined our Specialist Skills Internship, a programme designed for young people with an EHCP (Education Health Care Plan) who have completed a trade qualification. The internship provides real, hands-on work experience to help students build the confidence and skills they need to step into paid employment.
Freddie, who is autistic and has found social communication and interaction difficult at times, didn’t let that hold him back. In fact, he’s used every opportunity to prove just how capable and committed he is.
When his home had a full rewire in 2024, Freddie offered to help and impressed the company so much, they paid him for his time. That early show of skill set the tone for what was to come.
Freddie started a placement with Ameon in November 2024, joining a team working on a residential build. At first, it was a big adjustment as being on a busy site and interacting with new colleagues wasn’t easy. But the team made Freddie feel welcome, and over time, he settled in and began to thrive.
Since November, Freddie has worked two days a week from 7:00am to 4:00pm, racking up over 400 hours of on-site experience. His hard work, focus and positive attitude stood out and led to an incredible opportunity… Ameon offered him a paid job on site!
Freddie said:
“I found school and College difficult, but have really enjoyed the Internship, especially working on site,” said Freddie.
“My dream job is to become a fully qualified Electrician, and I think I’m on the right path. I’ve really enjoyed working with Ameon, the lads have been great. I’m excited to start paid work. I love travelling and watching horse racing with my Grandad and I’ll be able to do more of this now I’m getting paid.”
