Wayne joined our programme in 2024 with a diagnose of Autism. He had been out of work for 2 years and had lost confidence in himself. Wayne and his employment officer built up his confidence but having mock interviews and reflecting on what he had achieved in his past roles.
Wayne was offered an interview at Morrisons in Reddish after his employment officer was doing shopping in the store and asked if they were looking for workers to the manager.
Wayne attended the interview supported by his employment officer and did really well but couldn’t accept the job due to unsocial hours. The interviewer was impressed with his interview leading her to call other stores to see if they had vacancies.
This led to Morrisons in Dukinfield calling Wayne during a meeting with his employment officer asking if he could start the next week.
Wayne accepted the role and started the next week with the support of his employment officer. Both Wayne and the employment officer attended his shifts for the first 2 weeks. Once the employment officer broke down the tasks required by Wayne, he was able to start working fully independently.
Wayne has socialised well with the team and is a valued member of the team. He has built upon his skills and now covers all sections of the store.
Speaking to Wayne, he enjoys waking up feeling like he has a purpose.
