Callum was introduced to the Employment Support team at Pure Innovations after acquiring paid work and shared that this sudden life change had left him ‘not knowing what to do or where to go for help.’
Callum was a very reserved communicator during the first meetings with Pure but overtime appeared to build his confidence in his support and see that change was happening around him.
Throughout these challenges Callum was supported with a referral to a social worker and housing support was sought to help with his accommodation needs.
This period involved a lot of sudden change for Callum, but with encouragement and guidance from his Pure Support Worker; Callum was able to communicate his wishes and accept support more openly.
Callum shared he does not trust easily and commented: “I’m unsure of people, so I had to build trust with my Support Worker first, but it didn’t take long and I felt I could relate with them quickly because of their values.”
During this time, Callum worked with his Support Worker to apply for both PIP and Universal Credit. Some challenges were faced and so support was sought from John at Citizens Advice and Pure who helped Callum with voicing his support needs further.
His PIP application was firstly declined and so Callum was supported to challenge the decision which led to a tribunal hearing being arranged. Callum was supported to attend the tribunal hearing with John and was granted his high-level PIP entitlement, along with work capability.
A few months on and now Callum has settled within his supported accommodation, and he shared that he is much happier and settled in his new home and is ‘hoping to go the gym and have more independence’, since receiving his awarded PIP.Â
When asked about the support he had received from Pure through this difficult period, Callum said: “It’s the fact that any moment I needed help you were there.”
When asked how Callum now felt about his future, he shared: “I don’t really think too much about the future, but I would like to eventually move to wales with my family.”
Callum’s Support Worker commented: “It is positive to see the change in Callum and how he has improved in his trust of others and resilience to changes within his life. Callum has overcome many challenges in a short period of time and it is great to see him settling into his new accommodation with access to funds that will aid him in his independence moving forward.”
