‘Creating Communication’, an Inclusive Art Exhibition

Creating Communication is an exhibition of ceramic works by a group of disabled artists based in Stockport. The exhibition opens to the public between 7th and 9th September and will be held at new arts venue Sleepy Parrot Studios in the Underbanks, before touring to Arc Centre at the Hat Works from 14th to 30th September.

The ceramic artworks explore ideas of communication – from BSL to Morse code – with interactive and tactile elements for all to enjoy. The project was led by artist Arvinda Gray in partnership with disabled artists at Pure Innovations, an adult day-care centre in Vernon Park.

“We’ve had the most wonderful time working together. It’s been a joy to see the participants really run with the concept and I’ve been absolutely blown away by the exciting work that the group has achieved over the past few months.” – Arvinda Gray, inclusive arts practitioner.

The exhibition at Sleepy Parrot Studios is organised with focus on inclusivity, featuring audio descriptions of artwork, supporting documents in braille, easy read and large print formats, has tactile elements and is wheelchair accessible. Please email creatingcommunication.proj@gmail.com if you have any queries about access.

This project has been made possible with National Lottery funding from Arts Council England.
